ALL PEOPLE HAVE WORTH

The Pre-Release Education/Reentry Preparation Program provides confined individuals the opportunity to self-explore underlying, unresolved issues during their incarceration to make changes from within to change their behaviors.

THERE IS HOPE FOR ALL

Each person serving time in the department of corrections came from a home, in a neighborhood, in a community and they will be returning to the same.  Therefore, we all work together for the success of each one to become a community asset and not a liability

YOUTH CORPS GANG PREVENTION PROGRAM

This program is an incentive, military type program that offers positive alternatives to gang membership for boys 5 to 13.  The RAW DAWGS was originally developed by Dr. Joseph Jennings whose first program was funded by President George Bush.  Dr. Jennings provided Compassion In Action all the necessary material to establish his program in Omaha, NE in 2012.  After CIA relocated to it's current location to expand services to people confined and facilitate the RAW DAWGS Program, Dr. Jennings passed October 7, 2013, but his legacy continues with us.

Currently we are seeking funds to incorporate this program which was terminated in 2017 due to lack of funds and our building being vandalized.  Our goal is for 2022 to reorganize and begin operations to

"break the cycle from cradle to crime" in our city.

PEOPLE WE SERVE

Due to the pandemic in 2020, CIA was limited to serving our population in person and continued via correspondence courses. Our participants went from 35 to 165 for the year.

In addition, we expanded our Community Food Pantry beyond the immediate area to all families in need.

When one person is confined in prison, the whole family is locked up and the entire community is affected one way or another.

Compassion In Action connects the dots of society to assist in the recovery of all concerned and supports all efforts to bring families together. This is to break social cycles that foster negative mindsets and violent behavior leading to criminal acts and incarceration.  It takes an entire community to break the cycle and Compassion In Action is providing those opportunities for involvement. 402-502-9890

We have extended our services  beginning from behind prison walls, involving the community in the entire process of reentry. -Thus, transforming individuals who were former tax      burdens to productive tax payers in our society.

Compassion In Action is working in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services and the Self-Betterment Groups in various state correctional facilities. Self-Betterment Groups are run by long term and life sentence servicers who are not coming out anytime soon. However, they still serve a purpose that benefits their life while serving their sentence and also can benefit the community they once offended in the following ways:

  • Advantage of inside contact
  • Utilize community information to prepare residents prior to their      release
  • Partner with community agencies to assist with reentry preparation
  • Provide information from within the confines of prison walls that is      beneficial for public safety.
  • Assist the community in the process of transforming former criminals      of society into 'champions' for the good of the cause, when they are released      from prison.

CIA relocated to the Campus 2013. A Community Mural has been created to capture the rich history of service by the former to be developed for visitors and tourists.

A Community Mural, has been created and revealed in 2018, which captures  the  rich  history  of  the  former  Wesley  House.  It  also  mirrors  the continued  service  to  the community  through  the  partnership  of  Compassion  In Action and Mission Church, located on the property where the mural is painted.
